FoamFloats.com Submission for the GWS Tiger Moth
Submitted by: Will Shepherd
Specs:
Motor/Battery: Stock IPS A & 6 cell 150
AUW: 11oz
Floats: 15" (now 16")
Mounting:
The front edge of the main gear hardpoint should be placed about 5
½" from the float tip, and the rear hardpoint should be placed at about
12 ½" from the float tip. Adjust as necessary. Bending 4 ½" bit of
wire into a curl at the top (to slip on the dowel) and mirroring the
main gear to the axle will do the trick for the rear struts.
Flying:
Flying the Tiger Moth on floats with the stock power system and 6 cells
is JUST enough to do the job. Once the TM gets up on step it quickly
accelerates and a slight pull back sends it into the air. Stalling
on takeoff is very bad, so be sure to keep your climb angle as low
as possible until the plane is in stable flight. Strongly suggest some
kind of power upgrade like 8 cell NiMH 300 pack or larger motor for
float flying.
