FoamFloats.com submission for the GWS Pico J3F

Submitted by: Allan Rothoff

Built the floats as per the plans supplied with the floats. The landing gear and mounts are added to the finished floats after they are covered. Trial fit all parts at least once before glue is used. A 5min epoxy was used and the covering removed in the area of gluing. The dental floss was chosen for ease and any need for this extra strength was not tested but assumed as an over kill measure to keep me from swimming in case it really was needed. The floats can be added or removed in less than 2min because of the swiveling rear attachment (JR, or any other) arms.

The float hard points are at 5 1/2" from the float tip and 12" from the float tip. This put the step just slightly behind the CG by about 1/2" to 3/4". Each picture in order, 1 thru 10 has tips and info in the picture, however even after adding the 7 cell 300mah (smaller in size than the 6 cell), the J3 still never came off the water but did get up on step. At this point I might invest in the Dual IPS S1 4.8v on 6cells and an 8x6 prop.

UPDATE!
Here are the pictures of the J3 on the water. It flew like a dream with 8x730mah AAA’s and a 9 x 6 APC slofly. Thanks for the chance to be part of the free float program.
